Taverna Time!

Recently I went with a large group of friends to one of my favorite restaurants, Taverna Cretekou in Old Town, Alexandria. Highly recommended, especially on a Thursday night when they have live music and dancing.

The food is consistently excellent, the house wine is surprisingly tasty (and cheap, bonus) and the waiters are effortlessly entertaining. My top choice for an appetizer is the saganaki — Kasseri cheese sautéed and served with a twist of lemon. The best main course I’ve had there to date is the Pastitsio, which is baked ground sirloin and ziti pasta topped with Parmesan cheese and Béchamel sauce. Reasonable prices, great dining experience.

I would say it’s the best Greek restaurant in Virginia but I may run the risk of lying because it’s the only Greek restaurant in Virginia that I’ve experienced. And nobody likes a liar. Right?
