Interview 80: After The Storm — Part I

Last week I was back in New Orleans for the Labor Day weekend.

On that Saturday, I was honored to get the chance to reunite with three people who have in recent years featured on Dining With Strangers. We gathered at the fine dining restaurant Antoine’s — which has been open since 1840 — with the initial goal of discussing the 10 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, known down there as “the storm.”

My guests for the day were three fun personalities: zydeco dance teacher Mary Burns, cover band member Buzzy “Beano” Langford, and long-time French Quarter resident and former city health director Dr. Brobson Lutz.

I was slightly nervous about whether the trio would interact well, but I shouldn’t have had any cause for concern. Within minutes, these strangers to each other were talking like long-lost friends about Katrina, the history of New Orleans, and also offering an update on their lives since I first interviewed them.

There’s so much material I had to break this piece into two parts. For part one, either click on this link or on the pictures above, and read what they had to say about the Katrina 10 anniversary, which they call “K10.”

Part two will be online next Friday, September 18.
