Interview 105: Telling Stories Through Food

Jamila Robinson is a lifelong foodie, always eager to try new restaurants and also experiment with cooking at home.

She’s taken that passion and used it to develop a career in media where, at several major newspapers, she’s edited features sections finding innovative ways to tell captivating stories about food, dining, the restaurant scene, and much more. Present day, she’s a contest strategist for the Gannett media network, harnessing new technologies to find even better ways to tell stories — including those with a food focus.

Jamila has a packed schedule — she’s also involved in various food industry awards and galas — so I was lucky to get the chance to grab dinner with her on one of her rare quiet nights in her home base of Washington, DC. We met at Bar Elena on the H Street corridor to chat about her lifelong love of food and storytelling, and where she thinks the future of those stories might be heading.
