The 51st Throwback Thursday is my November 2013 dinner with actor Richard Kiel, best known his role as the menacing metal-mouthed bad guy Jaws in two Roger Moore James Bond movies. At 7 feet and 1-and-a-half inches tall he was an imposing figure but incredibly friendly and eager to talk about his career.
Over a meal at DC’s Old Ebbitt Grill, he talked about how he initially worked several odd jobs and even contemplated life as an attorney before becoming an actor. His appearance made him an instantly recognizable addition to any movie, and he enjoyed years of success on screen.
Sadly, Richard died in September 2014. I highly recommend watching some of his many great film appearances, not just the 007 movies “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker” but also “The Longest Yard,” “Force 10 from Navarone” and voice work in “Tangled.”
