Actor Fred Melamed, the 76th stranger featured on this site, is earning praise for his role in the new movie Shiva Baby which won rave reviews at the online South by Southwest film festival this year and from a screening at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival.
As described by the movie’s IMDB entry, the plot for this comedy is succinct yet full of hilarious promise: “At a Jewish funeral service with her parents, a college student runs into her sugar daddy.”
You can find the original short version of the film online, though it appears that the feature length version starring Fred is not yet available.
I met Fred, along with his wife Leslee Spieler Melamed, for dinner at The Palm in Beverly Hills back in May 2015. There I learned all about Fred’s adventures in acting, and how despite his prominence in serious dramatic roles he still loves to play comedic parts when he gets the chance. A thoroughly charming couple and we spoke so much I had to split the interview into parts one and two.
