Tabard Inn Impressions

Saturday night I had dinner at Washington DC’s Tabard Inn to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The lounge where we had pre-dinner drinks was about 100 degrees too warm and looked like a ski lodge, and their version of a rum runner was strong but, while I love strong drinks, it wasn’t exactly tasty.

Thankfully the dining room was very spacious and — unlike the mountain resort bar — air-conditioned. My potato gnocchi appetizer was perfect in taste and size, and the wild boar ragu main course was a wonderful mix of chunks of tender meat, fresh pasta and a spicy sauce that left a pleasant aftertaste.

I tried some of my friend’s birthday cake slice that the waitress brought out, which was pleasant enough. Nice place, good food, weird entrance lounge. One thumb up, though with a quizzically arched eyebrow to accompany it.
