Eating At Eatonville

In case you were wondering, I’m hoping to have another dinner — this time with video! — written up before I head back to England for a brief holiday next week.

If you weren’t wondering, then I think you’re terribly rude.

Meanwhile, some friends and I went for dinner at new Washington, DC, restaurant Eatonville. It’s a large place serving up Southern-style food for fairly reasonable prices.

The starters of fried green tomatoes and hush puppies came out lukewarm and a little on the bland site. But Eatonville has quite the delicious menu on offer when it comes to main courses and desserts. I ate almost all of my fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, braised collard greens and mushroom gravy, and my friends gave high marks to other main courses on offer. Everyone praised the desserts, which included a fantastic chocolate pie.

The drinks menu seals a positive review. In particular, I highly recommend a cocktail with the not-so-appealing name of “Muck” which contains Chambord raspberry liqueur — among a number of other ingredients I don’t recall — and was so good I had to order another. And another. And so on.

It was a rough morning the next day.
