Top Marks For Ted’s Bulletin

I might have a new favorite restaurant in Washington.

Ted’s Bulletin serves basic but well done American fare like meatloaf, fried chicken and — oh, who am I kidding? I’m fond of their food, but I think I’m embarking on a passionate romance with the restaurant’s alcohol-fueled milkshakes.

I could tout the great 1930s-style decor of the place. I could talk at length about how every waiter and waitress I’ve ever been served by here has been outstandingly friendly and professional. I could chalk a victory up to Ted’s for apparently knowing how to make every item on the menu delicious. I could mention the fact that the prices are all right. I could take about all that, but…ALCOHOL-FUELED MILKSHAKES.

No, really, they’re unbelievably great. The regular milkshakes are all well and good, with flavors like Oreo cookie coming out gooey, rich and full of chunks of the little biscuits. But the alcohol-fueled milkshakes are something else. My go-to is the Bananas Foster shake with vanilla ice cream, Cruzan banana rum, Kahlua, banana, and caramel. Boozy and sweet? Sounds like some of my friends.

I realize that the picture above is not of the milkshakes that I’ve put on such a high pedestal. Apologies for sloppy photojournalism. Instead make do with a photo of the ketchup-smeared meatloaf with mashed potato and BBQ baked beans. Tremendous.
