A Same-Sex Marriage ‘Last Stand’?

This is hardly breaking news anymore, and my site isn’t exactly CNN, but on Election Day in the States, voters approved measures in Maine, Maryland and Washington to legalize same-sex marriage. In Minnesota, voters also rejected a state constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. It’s still unlawful at the federal level.

What has this got to do with interviewing strangers over dinner?

Well, back in May 2011 I had a meal with DC-based Pastor Patrick Walker, an opponent of same-sex marriage. At the time, he conceded defeat in trying to get the District of Columbia to block gay marriage, while warning that “the last stand” for those who advocate marriage as only between one man and one woman is whether the federal government will ultimately recognize same-sex weddings. Following the election results, his interview might hint at how the anti-gay marriage groups shape their arguments in the coming months.

Oh, and I swear I haven’t forgotten about interviewing new people, despite the lack of updates. Expect the 46th interview online within the coming week.
