Interview 97: Love Wins

“Love Wins” is the title of a book that Jim Obergefell wrote about his experiences being the lead named plaintiff in the Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, about the landmark decision that held that the Constitution guarantees the right of same-sex couples to marry across the United States.

Almost two years after the June 2015 ruling, I met with Jim for the 97th dinner with a stranger. He recently moved from his home of many years in Cincinnati to Washington, DC, and we grabbed breakfast at Open City to talk about what he’s been doing since the ruling.

As Jim described it, he has a whirlwind life that includes writing the book, consulting on a movie version of it, traveling the country for speaking engagements, and learning to be more extroverted as he embarks on a quest to be an activist for equality.
