Following on from yesterday’s Throwback Thursday article highlighting my dinner with the 97th stranger Jim Obergefell, there’s a related event coming up next month at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
David Danzmayr, music director of the Oregon Symphony, will conduct a concert by the National Orchestral Institute and Festival Philharmonic. The program includes “John and Jim,” which honors the story of Jim and his late husband John. Jim was the lead named plaintiff in the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case that led to the 5-4 ruling in June 2015 finding the Constitution guarantees the right of same-sex couples to marry across the United States.
Other highlights of the program include “Also sprach Zarathustra,” featured in Stanley Kubrick’s film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and the suite from the comic opera “Der Rosenkavalier.”
The concert is on Sunday June 29 at 6pm, and costs $111 to attend in-person, or you can watch a livestream of the show by purchasing a “pay what you can” ticket.
