See Alex English At Austin’s Cap City Club

Emmy-nominated writer and standup comedian Alex English — recently a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and several years ago the 112th stranger featured on this site (I’ll let you decide which honor is most prestigious) — is performing in Austin, Texas, this coming weekend.

He’ll be at the Cap City Comedy Club’s Red Room on Saturday, May 17, at 7.30pm. I’ve seen his set live a couple of times and can vouch for it being a hilarious time. Tickets start at $24.99, and you can buy them direct from the club.

I met Alex in October 2018 for a breakfast interview in Brooklyn. He shared how, growing up in Detroit, he never thought about a career making people laugh. But once he left the city and moved to New York, an impromptu decision to take part in a comedy club’s open mic night made him decide to become a professional comedian.

When we met, he was already writing for television, performing regularly in New York and elsewhere, and told me what it’s like living as a funny man.
