This weekend I had dinner with some good friends at Bistro Italiano, a charming little restaurant in Washington DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Why do you care? You probably don’t, but I can use a miniature restaurant review as an excuse for a site update.
Tucked away on a street of row houses, the Italian restaurant is easy to miss. Indeed I had to pull out my trusty iPhone to find the place. It’s a small restaurant with only a handful of tables, but it gives off a welcoming vibe from the moment one enters.
I went for a pretty conventional choice of cheese and tomato pizza with grilled chicken topping. Despite the unoriginality of the dish, it was tremendous. The sauce was tangy but not overpowering or overloaded, and there just the right amount of cheese. The chicken was perfectly cooked, generously sprinkled around the pizza. And it was a lot of food.
Bistro Italiano doesn’t do small portions. My friends all struggled to finish their individual dishes, and I ended up leaving three slices of a medium pizza. When the food’s as good as this it’s a shame to have to give up on it, but my stomach only expands so far.
I would definitely recommend the restaurant for a repeat visit.
