Radio Presenter Zeb Soanes Named University Of Suffolk Chancellor

Radio presenter, actor, writer and all-around charming man Zeb Soanes (the 28th dinner stranger) has a new gig. He was recently selected as the University of Suffolk’s new chancellor.

In a post on his website, Zeb said taking over the role from former Chancellor Dr Helen Pankhurst CBE is “a profound honor” and “I look forward to furthering Helen’s passion and commitment and strengthening the ties between the University and the wider community of Suffolk, the county I am proud to be from and that is a very special part of who I am. Above all, I am excited to help nurture and encourage an exciting second decade of our students as they set out to shape their futures.”

As a BBC News article notes, Zeb worked for 25 years at the BBC, including as the voice of Radio 4’s Shipping Forecast. He is also the author of several children’s books and hosts an evening show on Classic FM.

Zeb and I met in January 2011 for a delightful dinner in London, where we talked about his life story so far, how he got into radio presenting and much more.
