Want to know what Americans ate 250 years ago? Bennett Rea, featured this summer as the 140th dining stranger, is here to help. He’s the host of hit online series “Cookin’ With Congress,” where he makes often bizarre, occasionally disgusting yet always intriguing recipes from politicians and others from years (sometimes centuries) gone by.
He recently met noted filmmaker Ken Burns ahead of his new documentary “The American Revolution” premiering on PBS. Bennett cooked him colonial-era dishes including Harty Choak Pie, then the two discussed the food, history and more. You can read more about Bennett’s experience on his Substack, which also has a link to video of the encounter.
