By day Burcin “Kaia” Dalkanat works a full-time job in the DC area. Nearly every night and weekend, she’s the self-shot, one-woman operation behind My Food Adventures DC, a nine-year-old Instagram account with more than 20,000 followers covering restaurants across DC, Maryland and Virginia – on a strict, self-imposed cap of three or four dinners a week.
Fair warning: this one goes off the rails almost immediately (in a good way). In the 147th dinner interview, Burcin and I barely make it to the food before getting derailed by a mutual friend and an Indiana Jones tangent – and things don’t get much more disciplined from there. But you’ll still get to learn about a witty, assured creator who talks about starting the account to make friends, the one time in nine years she’s ever been asked to turn her camera light down, and why she still won’t let this become a full-time job.
