After a summer hiatus from meeting strangers for meals, I’ve resumed Dining With Strangers and so here’s the 122nd interview: dinner with Jesse Rifkin, who performs twice a week singing and playing piano at a popular bar in DC.
Jesse, a journalist by day, tickles the ivories at Mr. Smith’s of Georgetown every Friday and Saturday night. He told me how he got the gig, and how he memorized hundreds of songs to handle the many requests he gets every week.
During our meal (at the bar) I also learned what first brought him to the District, and what he does when he’s not performing — including writing two blogs, and even competing on Wheel of Fortune.
