Quiz The Tired Old Queen At The Movies

Steve Hayes, also known as the “Tired Old Queen At The Movies,” has a one-man show next month in New York.

He’ll be performing “Quiz The Queen” which promises to be “an evening of hilarity, surprises and unexpected anecdotes as we try and stump [Steve] by showing him various clips from classic movies to see his reaction and hear what he comes up with.”

Steve, who was the 117th dining stranger, starts his show at 6pm on Thursday May 9 at Pangea, a restaurant located at 178 Second Avenue in Manhattan. Tickets are $20 bought online in advance or $25 (cash only) at the door.

I met Steve for brunch in New York in March 2019, as he was preparing to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his YouTube show Tired Old Queen At The Movies, where he shares his love of classic movies, talking about them with wit, sass and insight. He talked all about his joyful show, what inspired him to create it, and how he became infatuated with motion pictures. He also talked about his decades-long career as an actor and director in New York.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to watch another of Steve’s one-man shows at Pangea and also to simply enjoy an off the record brunch, and each time I’m reminded what a funny, charming man he is — and a walking, talking movie encyclopedia. Anyone that gets a ticket to next month’s Quiz The Queen should have a great time.
