Stephen Tobolowsky Stars In ‘Poolman’

More news about strangers I missed last year!

Actor and writer Stephen Tobolowsky, perhaps best known as Ned Ryerson in “Groundhog Day,” continues to be one of the most prolific character actors working today. We met in October 2014 at an LA diner for the 66th interview, spending more than two hours chatting about his fascinating life story. It’s always fun to see him pop up in all manner of television shows and movies, and that now includes “Poolman,” a star-studded movie released in 2024.

Here’s the movie’s logline: Darren Barrenman is an unwavering optimist and native Angeleno who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and fighting to make his hometown a better place to live.

And this is from the RogerEbert.com review: The mystery involves real estate and the corruption of a local city councilman named Stephen Toronkowsky, whom Darren sees each week at community meetings where he rants about historic preservation and the improvement of bus schedules. (The councilman is played by Stephen Tobolowsky, whose name is so similar to the character’s that you have to wonder if the part was written specifically for him.)

Adding this to my ever-growing list of movies to check out.
