Mikko Celebrates Eight Years With Vappu Menu

Happy anniversary to Mikko Kosonen, who opened his Nordic restaurant on R Street NW eight years ago because, as he told me in the 118th dinner interview, nobody else in Washington was doing it.

The former Finnish embassy chef has been educating D.C. diners about his type of food ever since – one bowl of fish soup and one plate of short ribs at a time.

To mark the anniversary and celebrate the Finnish holiday Vappu, Mikko is running a special three-course lunch/brunch and dinner menu today through Sunday. You can find out more at chefmikko.com.

You were the chef for a special gathering we had for Henry Hamburger…his 75th birthday 11 years ago. The food and service were impeccable throughout! Out of a whim I Googled you name and now see you are your own boss. That is fantastic. I realize you’ve done a thousand and one things since that day. I just wanted to extend another “thank you” for making that day as memorable as it was. -a
