Throwback Thursday 81: Night Of The DC Dead

Where were we?

As I slowly get this site back up and running ahead of hopefully resuming dinner interviews later this year, one regular feature that’s returning is Throwback Thursday — a sequential look back at past dinners.

The previous throwback update was in March 2021(!) when I shared memories of the 80th interview, a two-parter in New Orleans. In September 2015, roughly one decade after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, I met with three long-time residents of the Crescent City who have previously been featured on Dining With Strangers, hosting a group meal at Antoine’s.

This week, it’s the 81st meal: “Night of the DC Dead” with Vaughn Irving in Alexandria, Virginia. Actor and writer Vaughn was one of the creative minds behind “DC Dead,” a Halloween attraction that offered residents of the District the chance to race through an abandoned building while fending off zombies. He told me how the idea came about, what it was like to run a haunted house-type attraction, and also about his life in the theater.

If you would like to get a meal with me and be interviewed about your life story, you can reach me at mail@diningwithstrangers.com, although it will be a few months at least before they start up again.
